Our Indigo and Fabrics
The fabrics used in this collection are hand-dyed by the Bai artisans of Dali, Yunnan, using traditional Shibori techniques passed down through generations. Through intricate folding, bundling, and stitching, they create expressive patterns using indigo dye made from fermented Strobilanthes cusia (马蓝) leaves. This slow, intentional process yields textiles that are not only beautiful but also 100% natural and environmentally respectful.
The Art of Shibori
With every thread pulled and every fold pressed, the Shibori technique transforms simple fabric into living artwork. Known as Shibori in Japan and 绞缬 in China, this age-old resist-dyeing method traces back over a thousand years. Using a needle and thread guided by hand-drawn patterns, artisans bind the fabric to resist the dye, creating patterns that are both deliberate and serendipitous—each piece uniquely alive.
Introduction of Blue Bee Tie Dye：
The concept of Blue Bee Tie Dye started with Dali, an ancient town in the southwest of China where beautiful indigo fabrics can be seen hung along the stone roadsides everywhere. Inspired by this thousand-year-old craft from Dali, Blue Bee Tie Dye was founded in 2022 in Singapore, focusing on the promotion and integration of Bai’s needle tie dye techniques with modern aesthetics, popular symbols and needs.

Due to the natural dyeing process, a slight release of indigo color may occur with use. This is a hallmark of genuine, hand-dyed craftsmanship. To preserve your garments, we recommend avoiding pairing with white or light-colored clothing.
