Indigo tie dyeing is a captivating art form that involves creating unique patterns on fabric using folding, twisting, and binding techniques. By immersing the fabric in an indigo dye bath, beautiful blue and white designs are created. This timeless craft merges traditional Bai Minority shibori techniques with contemporary symbols, resulting in fashionable and culturally significant pieces.
At COCOONESE, sustainability is a core value. Our Natural Indigo Tie Dye Workshop aligns with our commitment to eco-friendly practices. Natural indigo dyes, derived from plants, are free from harmful chemicals, making them a sustainable choice. By using natural materials and encouraging mindful consumption, we hope to inspire others to adopt a more eco-conscious lifestyle.
As a brand that embraces handcrafting, we wanted to offer our customers an immersive experience. The workshop provided a hands-on opportunity for participants to explore their creativity and learn various tie dye techniques. From folding and twisting to binding fabric, everyone enjoyed experimenting and creating unique patterns. Laughter filled the air as friends and family came together to express their artistic abilities.
We extend our gratitude to all the friends who supported our Natural Indigo Tie Dye Workshop. Your presence and enthusiasm made the event a success. Witnessing the joy on everyone's faces as they discovered their artistic talents and created personalized tie-dye masterpieces was truly inspiring. Your support encourages us to continue organizing such creative and engaging workshops.
Due to the overwhelming response, we are excited to announce that we will be launching more workshops in the coming months. We invite you to stay tuned and check our workshop category for more details on the upcoming classes. Join us as we continue to foster creativity, promote eco-friendly practices, and provide unique experiences.
Chloe was not only the photographer for the shoot but also the mother's daughter, which added a unique element of intimacy and emotion to the photos. Mother-daughter moments are always special, and this shoot was no exception.
The idea behind the shoot was to help Chloe's mom to have a new look and feel pampered and appreciated by her family and friends. We wanted to celebrate the beauty of every woman in the world and showcase the timeless elegance that comes with motherhood.
The Cocoonese photo shoot was a beautiful tribute to mothers everywhere. Let's celebrate this upcoming Mother's Day!
“I want to bring the arts closer to people’s daily lives. Art is not inaccessible.” -Chloe Wang, Founder of Cocoonese
The serendipitous collaboration of home-grown brand Cocoonese, and German-Venezuelan artist Victoria Hertel, was an initiative by the National Arts Council (NAC) and Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFF). Kick started in October, the project led our founder, Chloe to discover Victoria from a list of eligible artist partners. She was drawn immediately to her work “Breeze” and could instantly visualise it printed on her bag designs. “Although the painting was abstract, it had so many layers to it and the colours were so vivid and vibrant. I thought it would look very pretty on a bag and I knew right away that I wanted to work with Victoria.”
To amplify the concept of nature and flow of these art pieces, Chloe specially handpicked a transparent chain strap and wooden frame for her larger bag designs. “I wanted to use the transparent strap to create an imagery of lightness to the bag, despite its large size. This is also the first time I’m using a wooden frame and I hope it brings out the theme of nature, which is the original intention of the design.”
Being her first time working with original composition, the task proved challenging for Chloe. Designs like Breeze and Cascade were intricate and did not require much modifications beyond resizing them for printing on fabric. But for Raintiles, it took a joint effort between Chloe and Victoria to pick four simple art pieces to put together a richer, tiled design.
Chloe shared that for this collaboration, they explored fabric printing for the first time, and through the process, translated Victoria’s creative into digital art images, and found the perfect middle ground to maximise the use of space while displaying the artwork in their most complete forms.
However, compromises still had to be made to ensure these pieces were best presented on a bag medium. Chloe mused in recollection, “Victoria’s art could easily be showcased on our larger sized bags but not as prominently on smaller purses, and difficult decisions were made to pick the best section to front our bag designs.”
Noting that such partnerships are essential for art and local brands to thrive, Chloe herself is constantly on the lookout for similar opportunities in the future. “I am an avid fan of art myself and I hope that through collaborations like this, I can encourage more people to enjoy art on an intimate level and to support art.”
“ For Cocoonese, this is the first of many more to come in the future. ”
]]>Last month, Cocoonese took our first leap onto a fashion runway. It was the reopening of Design Orchard, and the very first time taking our designs to a fashion show.
Organisers first got in touch with our founder, Chloe Wang in February and commissioned new designs for the reopening. With only three months to work on a brand new design, Chloe was tasked with not only the challenge of time, but also to incorporate local elements into her design. In line with her usual design vision, it did not take long for her to start integrating traditional batik prints into her new design. She also took the opportunity to introduce a more environment-friendly material – making bamboo handles the highlight of these new designs.
Speaking of her inspirations, Chloe said that she chose functionality over grandstanding. “I thought of making it look extravagant so it would look good on the runway, but I didn’t want to make something that was useless. That’s how I decided to give up making something too fanciful and went for usability and performance.”
Working with local renown stylist Daniel Boey, Cocoonese is super proud to be one of the 30 selected brands to participate in the show. “It was very satisfying and cool to see my own brand on a proper runway. The styling was great and it was very interesting to see the mix-and-match with other brands. ”, said Chloe.
Our new designs are now available in limited quantities at Design Orchard (250 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238905).
Three new designs in eleven different prints will officially release on our website from 1 Aug, 2022.

Have you seen the latest season of SupermodelMe Revolution? We are so excited and pleased to announce that our beloved handbags took centre stage in the photoshoot challenge aired in November last year!
Our handmade bags had humble beginnings in a small studio in Joo Chiat, and we worked hard to eventually become part of the Singapore Airlines’ Krisshop collection. We had no idea that one day, that was going to take us onto an international stage where our bags shone as the centrepieces featured in the seventh episode of SupermodelMe Revolution. It was such an honour to be selected and featured in the series, and a really meaningful moment to be recognised as a unique fashion brand by the industry as we look back at how much we have grown as a local SG brand.
The Cocoonese label has always prided itself as a Made In Singapore brand. Our founder Chloe Wang has been fascinated with the Nanyang culture since she moved here from Taiwan more than 10 years ago. The batik style print has always been an integral part of her selection of fabric prints used in her handmade bags. Not only is Chloe completely involved in the selection of the fabric material, hand stitches each piece meticulously on her own, she also takes pride in the fact that each piece of fabric is made from 100% cotton that is harmless and responsible to the environment.
Just like the judge’s pick for best photo, this particular style of handbags is also one of the bestsellers on our official website. Favoured for its roomy capacity and lined with an inner pocket for easy access to all your important knick knacks, we really appreciate how the models make our bags look so fashionable so effortlessly!
Once again, we would like to articulate our appreciation and thanks to SupermodelMe Revolution and all models and crew involved who made our modest bags shine along with you.
